There has been a lot of talk about CBD oil and how it improves our health and lifestyle as well. Studies have confirmed that CBD oil might help with various health conditions and therefore showing that CBD is quite important. You might have noticed that CBD is becoming increasingly popular and so many companies are getting into this industry.
Unfortunately, the CBD industry has a lot of grey areas because there are no regulations that have been put in place. It is for this reason some companies are selling substandard CBD oil to innocent people. Some of the products they are selling do not even have the potency that they claim to have. It is important that you learn how to make your own CBD oil at home.
Honestly, there are so many benefits that are associated with making your own CBD oil. As much as you can purchase this product from a dispensary or online vendor, it is much cheaper if you make it at home. Below is how to make CBD oil at home.
The other benefit is the fact that you will be responsible for the contents of your oil. You can decide which strain to use, the potency of your oil, and method of extraction as well. At least, you won’t have to deal with unscrupulous sellers. Making your oil at home is the only way you can avoid the hassles of buying CBD oil.
In case you have decided to go with homemade CBD oil, you will need to know the various methods you have at your disposal. Of course, you won’t have that many methods as a company would have. You are an amateur and you can only work with two methods.
The method you choose will be determined by your personal preferences and the tools you have at your disposal. Each of the methods has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Use them to weigh which method suits you best.
As a beginner, you can only use two methods. The first one involves the use of food-safe alcohol while the second method requires the use of natural plant oils. The use of CO2 extraction is not feasible for you as it is so expensive and time consuming.
The strain that you are going to use is vital because it is going to determine what kind of CBD oil you are going to end up with. There are so many cannabis strains available, but not all are suitable for your project. You should avoid any strains that have a high THC content. Go for CBD-dominant strains such as ACDC, Charlotte’s Web, Nebula II CBD, and CBD Critical Mass.
Once you have the right strain selection, you will be ready to start the extraction process. Below are the procedures that you should follow for each method:
This type of extraction has been practiced for many years and it is pretty easy to perform as long as you have the following items Ingredients you need to make cbd oil at home:
- 30g ground CBD dominant buds
- Food-safe alcohol
- Mixing bowl
- Parchment paper
- Baking tray
- A sieve or cheesecloth
- Double boiler
- Wooden spoon
The first step involves decarboxylating the buds. This is achieved by grinding up the buds into a fine substance. Once you have done that, place the fine powder on a baking tray and line it with parchment paper. Now place the tray in a preheated oven at 225 degrees Fahrenheit and allow it to sit in there for 50 to 60 minutes.
Scoop the decarbed buds and place them into a mixing bowl. Pour the food-safe alcohol until the entire bud powder is submerged. Now stir the contents slowly for around 10 minutes. The alcohol is meant to pull out the important cannabinoids and terpenes from the plant matter.
The third step involves separating the alcohol extract from the plant matter. This is where the sieve or cheesecloth comes in. Strain the solution and repeat the process with fresh alcohol until you are able to pull out enough CBD and terpenes from the buds.
The 4th step involves setting up the double boiler. You can make a double boiler with a saucepan and a stainless steel bowl that fits snugly with the pan. What you basically need to do is to partly fill the saucepan with water and place the bowl into the saucepan. You should make sure that the bowl doesn’t touch the bottom of the saucepan.
Once you have the double boiler set up, pour the alcohol extract into the bowl and apply heat on the saucepan. Keep the heat low since the alcohol is highly volatile. Remember that you should keep stirring the extract until for 20 minutes. Once the alcohol evaporates, the extract will turn extremely viscous.
The last step is to draw up the extract into multiple syringes while still warm. You can also store it in containers but a syringe is much better because it makes it easy to administer.
This is another great way to make CBD oil. Below are the requirements and instructions you need to follow.
- 30g of hemp flower
- 450g coconut oil, hemp seed oil or olive oil
- Double boiler
- Baking tray
- Cheesecloth or any other filter
- Glass jar
The first step is always to decarboxylate the raw cannabis. This is done by baking the cannabis at a temperature of 225 degrees Fahrenheit for about one hour.
Now pour the the decarboxylate contents into the jar and add the carrier oil of your choice. You can add more oil depending on the potency you are looking for.
Once you have achieved the correct saturation, pour the mixture into the stainless steel bowl of the double boiler. Fill the saucepan or whichever bottom pan you are using with water. Now heat the content gently into a simmer. Remember to monitor the temperature of the mixture carefully to prevent your terpenes from evaporating. This process should take 2 or 3 hours.
Now remove the end product from the double boiler. Grab your glass jar and cover the opening with a cheesecloth. Pour the mixture over the filter in order to sieve the unwanted flowers and plant fragments. Once you are done, seal the container and allow the CBD oil to sit overnight.
As you can see from the above procedures, making CBD oil is pretty straightforward. Homemade CBD oil is pretty much the same as the oil that you purchase from companies. The only difference is the extraction methods.
